Frequently Asked Questions

  • What time of the year should I get my tree pruned?

There isn’t a single best time for pruning as this largely depends on the type of tree you have and when it grows. For trees that bloom in summer, pruning is best done in late winter and very early spring because they are dormant and it will be easier to see what needs to be pruned.

Getting maintenance done on your tree at the wrong time of year could result in illness, disease and unrecoverable damage, so if you're unsure when this is, speak to our team. When you choose to have your tree pruned in time for its next growing season, it will be stronger and healthier.

  • Can I remove a hazardous tree myself?

Although you can remove a hazardous tree from your own back garden, theoretically, we recommend you don't do this for your own safety. Removing a tree of any size requires the use of suitable equipment such as chainsaws, which can cause severe and fatal injuries if you have no prior experience using them. Plus, you're unlikely to be able to control which way the tree falls, which could cause fatal casualties if the tree ends up falling onto your home or on top of you.

The same applies to any specialist arborist work. Our team have specialist training as well as relevant diplomas and on-the-job experience, so it is best to leave any tasks like this to us.

  • How long does stump removal take?

Stump removal can take as little as an hour for small stumps and up to four hours for one which is extremely large. We can provide a more accurate timescale and quote if you let us know the size and type of tree stump you want rid of. We can even bag up the chips collected from the stump afterwards so it can be repurposed as mulch, which is great for the environment.

  • How can I tell if my tree has died?

There are plenty of ways to tell if a tree has died. Most of the time, you should be able to tell just by looking at the tree, with the most common signs being:

    • Where the bark is scratched, the timber underneath is green. A dead tree will also be soft to the touch.
    • The presence of fungi and pests.
    • No leaves or brown ones.
    • There are cankers on the trunk.

Dying trees have many environmental problems associated with them, as they can harbour diseases that can be contracted by living trees. They should be removed immediately if you find one in your garden or backyard.
